Women Shape and Run the World... But at what cost?

Women Shape and Run the World... But at what cost?

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

As a Female Founder and Mother,

I Believe Women Shape and Run the World

Every year on International Women’s Day,

we celebrate the achievements, strength, and resilience of women across the world.

But beyond the celebration, there is a quieter truth that many women understand deeply.

Women do not only shape the world.

They carry it.

As a female founder and a mother, I see this every day...

in myself, in the women around me, and in the countless stories shared between friends, colleagues, and customers.

Women are the emotional anchors of families, the organisers behind households, the supporters of communities, and often the quiet force keeping everything running.

And while the world celebrates women’s power,

it rarely speaks about the cost that power can carry.

The Invisible Load Women Carry

For many women, especially mothers, life involves a constant balancing act.

There is the visible work... careers, businesses, childcare, cooking, school runs, appointments, and endless to-do lists.

But beneath that sits another layer that is rarely seen.

The invisible load.

It’s the mental checklist running in the background of the day.

Remembering school schedules, planning meals, anticipating problems before they happen, managing family emotions, supporting partners, and often caring for elderly relatives too.

Women are frequently the emotional managers of the household.

We notice when someone is upset before they say anything.

We anticipate needs.

We hold space for everyone else’s feelings.

And somewhere between caring for everyone else, many women quietly place themselves at the bottom of the list.

Over time, that constant output has real consequences.

Many women experience chronic stress, emotional fatigue, burnout, poor sleep, and a lingering feeling of being overwhelmed.

Mothers in particular often experience disrupted sleep patterns for years, even long after children have grown beyond infancy.

Yet despite this, many women feel guilty for taking time to rest.

The idea of self-care is often presented as something elaborate or indulgent...

a luxury reserved for people with free time.

But real self-care should not feel like another task on the list.

It should feel like support.

Rest and Regulation Are Not Luxuries

When the body and mind are under constant pressure,

the nervous system remains in a heightened state of alert.

This is why many women struggle to switch off at night.

Even when the house is finally quiet, the mind continues to process everything that happened during the day and everything that still needs to happen tomorrow.

Sleep becomes shallow or interrupted.

Tension builds in the body.

Fatigue accumulates over weeks, months, sometimes years.

But rest is not something we should have to earn.

Rest is how the body repairs.

It is during rest that the nervous system resets, inflammation settles, and the body begins to recover from stress.

Skin regenerates, hormones stabilise, and the mind regains clarity.

Small, repeatable rituals can make a meaningful difference here.

Not complicated routines.

Not a shelf full of products.

Just small moments of intentional care that signal to the body that it is safe to slow down.

A warm bath.

A calming aroma.

A gentle evening routine.

These rituals are not about perfection or productivity.

They are about creating space to breathe and reconnect with ourselves.

When self-care is simple, it becomes sustainable.

Simple Rituals That Fit Real Life

This belief is what inspired the philosophy behind Happy Oils UK.

The brand was never created to promote complicated beauty routines or unrealistic expectations.

It was created from lived experience...

from understanding what it feels like to juggle responsibilities while trying to maintain balance.

Many women do not have time for ten-step routines.

And they shouldn’t need them.

Intentionally formulated products can replace multiple products,

making routines simpler while still supporting the skin and the nervous system.

Aromatherapy can turn everyday moments into grounding rituals,

helping the body transition from a state of stress into a state of calm.

When rituals are simple with intentionally formulated products,

it becomes something we can actually maintain.

Not something we abandon when life gets busy.

Self-care should support real life,

not compete with it.

A Gentle Reminder

This International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day reminds us of the strength, resilience, and influence women have in shaping the world.

But perhaps it should also remind us of something else.

Women deserve support too.

They deserve moments of rest, calm, and care that are not conditional on productivity or achievement.

As Mother’s Day approaches,

it’s a beautiful opportunity to recognise the women who carry so much for others... mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends, and mentors.

Sometimes the most meaningful gifts are not extravagant.

Sometimes they are simple reminders that someone deserves to slow down and take care of themselves.

Because when women are supported, rested, and cared for, they do more than run the world.

They thrive in it.
